WHO WE ARE

We are a dedicated group of medical specialists from The Netherlands Cancer Institute-Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL) Amsterdam, Free University Amsterdam, HAGA Hospital group The Hague in association with Erasmus university Rotterdam.

Collaborations started more than 10 years ago. Our main goal is to improve cancer care in Indonesia. Our expertise is head and neck cancer, nevertheless we are involved in many other projects, like raising awareness for cancer, building new facilities in the country for cancer care and creating cooperation between Indonesian and Dutch universities in  the field of cancer treatment and research. In Yogyakarta a preliminary well equipped cancer care unit is ready to be launched in the near future in close cooperation with the NCI(Netherlands Cancer Institute) Amsterdam.

With the support of grants from the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF kankerbestrijding), Asialink , IARC, Eureko Achmea Foundation, biolitech, the Dutch Rotary and others we have established a preliminary center for diagnosis and early detection and monitoring of nasopharyngeal cancer, based in Yogyakarta. In The Netherlands we developed new treatment modalities like Photodynamic Therapy for treatment of early superficial mucosal  cancers which can be implemented in the Indonesian situation as well.

The Foundation(SHHKI)was established  in 2008 to fight in the first place nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC), or cancer of the nose and throat, cancer number 4 in Indonesia with the goal of establishing a sustainable framework for the screening and treatment of NPC and later in addition to a series of other activities it developed tools to improve the treatment of patients with many other types of cancer.
